This tutorial tries to explain to you how to create your own craters on planets Photoshop.

It is very important to understand that there are many ways of doing things Photoshop and not only that I explained here. The aim of this tutorial is to give an idea of what can and can not dictate how it should be. I encourage all who read this tutorial also experimenting on their own in addition to simply follow the tutorial. Aim to meet the program's tools and try to reach the same result with their own techniques. Also I will try to explain "why" of the individual steps. So please do not just blindly follow all the steps, if not try to think about each step carefully and try to really understand what is happening and what is supposed to achieve.

With this in mind, let's get down to business ...

Step 1: Basic form and outline

Open Photoshop and click on File -> New. Create a new canvas with a width and height of 400 pixels. Alternatively you can use a higher resolution. Set Foreground color to white and the background a little gray. The code I used was "5a5a5a." Press Ctrl + Shift + N to create a new layer. Name it "base." Continue reading →

The aim of this tutorial is to give an idea of what can and can not dictate how it should be. I encourage all who read this tutorial also experimenting on their own in addition to simply follow the tutorial. Aim to meet the program’s tools and try to reach the same result with their own techniques. Also I will try to explain “why” of the individual steps. So please do not just blindly follow all the steps, if not try to think about each step carefully and try to really understand what is happening and what is supposed to achieve.

With this in mind, let’s get down to business …

Step 1: Basic form and outline

Open Photoshop and click on File -> New. Create a new canvas with a width and height of 400 pixels. Alternatively you can use a higher resolution. Set Foreground color to white and the background a little gray. The code I used was “5a5a5a.” Press Ctrl + Shift + N to create a new layer. Name it “base.”

In principle, we must see the general shape of our crater. The craters are usually round it makes things easier.

Click the Marquee tool (M). Put it in elliptical right clicking once on the icon and select the Elliptical Marquee Tool. ”

Now create a selection in the center of your canvas. Make sure you have enough space on the sides.

Fill the selection with white by pressing Shift + Backspace and press Enter, but do not deselect yet. The white circle marks the area inside the crater, which has a light opposite to the area around the crater.

Now let’s get the selection by 1 pixel. To do this Click Select – Modify> – Collapse>. Type “1″ in the dialog box and accept. You’ll hardly notice a change in the canvas, but the selected area is exactly one pixel smaller on each side. Next, erase all that is in this new selection, with the tool “Draft” or press Delete. You will stay with a thin white ring.

Deselect.

Note:
This ring is the basis for the outline of the crater. Is the most enlightened and higher, that is why it is white. However, a crater is not perfectly circular so that will add a touch more irregular in the next step to deform the ring slightly. In view of profiled, then the red dots mark the area you just created.

Step 2: Doing irregular

Well, now we have the boundary that marks the core area of our crater. Press “Ctrl + N Shift + +” to create a new layer and name it “scheme.”

Now take the Brush Tool (B). and configure the width of the Brush to 1 pixel on the menu “Options” Panel. In the layer “Outline” draw a circle in hand with the Brush and it is not perfect. Use the layer “base” as a guide. Make sure the circle is completely closed (this is important for the next step.) The goal is draw very imperfect circle look round yet. You do not want it to look oval.

Step 3: Inner Shadow

Now let’s see first a little enlightenment. To clarify the way the light falls on a spherical object of a profile view can be very useful.

First hide the layer “base” so it will not now. Now take the “magic wand” (W) and select the layer “outline.” Click inside the circle. Space is selected within the scheme. Create a new layer and name it “Inner Shadow.” Place under his cloak “Scheme”

Now take the Gradient Tool (G) and Panel Options select “Radial Gradient”. Also configure your foreground color to black and let the background color of the gray 5a5a5a. ” Now make a gradient in your selection that extends from one end of the schema to another. Your canvas should now look like the image # 6.

Step 4: Shadow Foreign.

Once done, let’s move to the area outside the crater. Select the “Profile” layer once again take the “Magic Wand Tool (W). This time, click outside the circle. Your selection now covers only the area on the canvas outside the body of the crater. Press Ctrl + Shift + N and name your new layer “shadow outside.” This layer must also be included under the layer “Outline.” Then we will pull a gradient in the same way as before, only this time we will not use a background color. So take the “Gradient Tool (G) again, but this time click the drop-down menu panel Options and select “front-transparent color.”

Now click and drag along the black line that appears in the picture no 7.

Do this twice. Clear. Now it should be something like the image nr.8.

You may want to erase a bit of black on the sides with the eraser tool (E). Be sure to use a soft brush with a hardness of 0% for this. I used one with a diameter of 150 pixels.

Note:
What we have now looks a bit like a crater. It’s time to explain how this is going to be adapted to the shape of a planet. What made this tutorial lighting is to create a crater. So if you put it on a planet is mixed with the texture. Gray represents, in general, the lighting of the texture. The black shows where the crater casts shadows. Then we add some white to mark the parts that are more enlightened than the rest of the texture.

Take a look at the profile view of enlightenment. We care to shade parts of the crater (with some fine tuning.) What remains are the highlight.

Step 5: more lighted areas

Create a new layer and name it “highlights areas”. Select the layer “Outline” (which should still be in the top). Take the tool “magic wand” (W) and select the area outside the crater. Now set your foreground color white and take the “Gradient Tool (G) again. Keep the settings from step 4 and pull a gradient along the white Nr.9 image. Do this twice.

Now select the inner area of the crater. Create a new layer with the name “Star Inside” and fill in white (Shift + Del). Do not deselect yet, take the “Tool Frame” (M). Click inside the selection and drag a bit in the direction given by white Nr.9 the image. Your canvas should look like the image Nr.10.

Now you need to soften the selection. To do this click on Select -> Modify -> Soften and type “30.” Click OK. You will notice that your selection has become perfectly round. Make sure you are still working on his cloak “Star Inside” and press backspace 4 times. Clear.

You will have deleted the white on the inside of your choice. Having softened selection 30 pixels and in advance has the effect of having no hard edges. The target is removed gently without hard edges to simulate the dispersal of light. Nr.11 image shows what happened to me after completing step 5.

If you have not saved your work, better do it now.

Step 6: Too Clean

Well, now we have the base of the crater made. The next thing to do is make the thing seem more real. This step will give you a little more randomness. It still looks too much like a plastic button. Create a new layer above the layer “Outline” and name it “Outline Detail.”

Now take the brush “(B) and attach a diameter of 1 pixel in the”Panel options. Your foreground color should still be white. Now just try to make the “Scheme” look a bit more random. Work with the brush to create denser parts and undulations. You have to make a zoom on image to do this. You can work with a 5-pixel brush with 0% hardness and set the opacity of the brush about 10%. You can do all this in the panel of options.

After finishing with the 5-pixel brush resize to 45 pixels and OPIC brush to 2% (all done in the options panel).

With this brush you want to work only inside the crater, so take the “Magic Wand” (W) and select the inside of the crater by clicking inside the crater in the layer diagram. ” Do not forget to re-layer “Details of the Scheme” before starting to work again. If you want to play some more, try different brush sizes, but beware of exaggerating node, otherwise it will be too small shadows in its crater. In the picture no. 12 can see how the crater could occur after the retouching.

For the grand final try to paint a little relief, as set out in the crater. There are no rules right here, making it difficult to give specific instructions. But in general I recommend a brush with an opacity of 10% or less and a variation in the size of the brush about 65 to 1 pixel. Be sure to use Brushes with 0% hardness. Also check the space inside the crater with the “magic wand (W) to avoid affecting the edges. (Once again: do not forget to return to the appropriate layer). If you feel confident enough you can take” Smudge tool (R) and use that resource as well.

No Image. 13 shows how our crater is complete. Save a JPEG copy.

Step 7: Putting it on a planet

Welcome to the last stage where will the crater on the surface of a planet. I recommend a planet with a very subtle texture that does not stand out much. Here you can see the planet I’ve used. Is my image “Moonlands.”

Now open the JPEG image of the crater, copy it over the layer of the planet. Normally do not mix very well.

While the crater layer is selected, press CTRL + T to transform it. Hold the mouse off the layer. Now click and drag to rotate the crater so you can see in the image on the right. Do not press Enter yet …

… and give a rectangular shape as seen in the image. Once this is done press Enter to confirm the transformation.

Note:
Depending on where you want the crater has to leave the square. This crater is to be placed in the top left of the planet. If you want to put it exactly in the middle it obviously has to stay square. The closer to the edge of the planet, more will have to deform.

Make sure the layer of the crater is selected and change the blending mode of it to “Overlay.” To do this, click the dropdown menu in the Layers window, where it says “normal.” It will provide a list of blending modes. Hover your mouse over the “overlap” and click. Its crater should now look like the photo on the right. You can then movel a bit to better match the spherical surface of the planet. (Move a little towards the top left)

You will notice that the crater is now combined with the texture and color of your planet. Anyway should still be able to distinguish the square edges around its crater. To get rid of this press CTRL + L to enter the dialog levels. ” Now move the slider middle right or left until you see the border disappear. If you can not make the border disappear completely, zoom and just delete the edge with a soft eraser.

If you are unhappy with the location or size of the crater can move a bit and maybe change its size by pressing CTRL + T again. To maintain the proportions of the crater hold down Shift while resizing. The image at right shows my final result.

More of a crater, just repeat this step a few times. I recommend that you make a variacipòn size and do not put in all the planet’s surface since the end result would be very monotonous.

Congratulations. Crater has created its own in Photoshop!

Here is a template for PhotoShop that usually would be used to the contact section, which includes space for the form as well as relevant information. The aesthetic is as well shown, a simulation of a pair of traditional mailing envelopes.

Download Mail Feedback Form | Free PSD Files

The advantage of that is done in PhotoShop is fully editable and add other elements such as social networking information on the other hand for those who begin to layout, can be a bit complex at first, but can be a kick to dare this mysterious world.

Perhaps one does not realize the importance of a tool until you need it, in my case, carrying out a site about golf, I’ve gone crazy by the turf by hand, and although I am satisfied with the result would have appreciated finding Appeal and to carry out the design otherwise.

I want to share a small but effective remedy if they are in need of organic textures, these six can be very useful.

Download Free Grass textures PSD | FreePSDFiles

This is a small PhotoShop file extension. Pat it possible to apply the 6 textures on layers directly, with all the options offered by the software. Raised tile so there is no limit for expansion.

1 – Open a new document the size you want and create a layer with black background

2 – Create another layer and select the text tool now creates a text with all
strange characters can be letters normal but instead of putting orientation
cambial horizontal to vertical I suggest using Courier New font size 10 and choose a green color for text

3 – Copy the text layer a couple of times by changing the opacity and size and move it a bit so that you are not so many empty spaces

4 – Now press the D key or select the black and white and come standard

5 – go to Filter> Render> Clouds and then to Image> Adjustments> Brightness / Contrast … slide the contrast and adds +100% to 20 pixels Gaussian blur

6 – To give a little more than a doubling effect on the text layer you have not done step 5 and add a motion blur now you can put all the layers and pass the following

7 – Now make large text … Create a new layer that is above and select a typeface similar to the matrix can even download it

Enter your text in white and duplicate it 3 times then rasterized the text in all layers

fill the layer 3 of the text with the color you used to fund letters

in layer 2 of the Gaussian blur filter used with 5 0 7 pixels as maximum

and finally in 4 of the text layer select motion blur filter and lower the opacity of the layer … repeat if necessary or duplicate the layer. It’s all

clouds play if you put too can get a good effect

with a little experience and choosing a good color do you leave something like

For those who are new to the wonderful world of PhotoShop , can be somewhat cumbersome at first and often do not often get the desired result. In addition, while learning to use tools well is very important, so is knowing where to find those elements that save time, especially if they need to deliver many things and quality.

In this case I want to share a style that seemed incredible that only requires a good typeface apply over raster and emulates a transparent gel effect excellent.

But also to share them invite you to visit the little tutorial for step by step as the ideal outcome. In this case I decided to apply on a metal texture that can be downloaded free from the link, you will see that it is very simple and fast.

Open a new document in PhotoShop. Of any size, texture can be used directly to write about it, in my case I used the Texture Speaker Grille. My canvas is 570 x 300 pixels on a white background (irrelevant), hit the texture on the Background layer and automatically get a new layer.

As the texture I selected already contains some shine, what I do is climb to reduce its visual weight, do not want to compete with the text.

Then select a font that allows us a certain thickness to display clearly despite transparency. In this example I selected one called Snickles also be downloaded from the article by professional typography .

We write what we want, keep in mind that it is a decoration, these effects are to stand, but not to read long texts.

Then download the file Text Effects Gel , and export the file. ASL. zip. Once we know where we’ve saved, go to Edit ?Presets Manager, this window, select Styles and click on Load …, select the file. Asl and see how you add two squares of transparencies.

To view the Styles window that we need simply go to Window ‘Styles. They see the styles to apply, and we can only select the text layer that we raster and click any of the two effects we found. There is a lighter and one darker.

Depending on the texture you have selected may be relevant to duplicate the text layer before applying the style, and play with one that is flat, provided that locate below.

The result is very striking, and despite the extension of this paper are three easy steps to implement to achieve a final image like this:

If you are looking for actions with amazing effects may feel a bit disappointed with this pack of shares, as these are simple commands to improve everyday workflow.
The set features activities such as “Save for Web” Smart Objects “,” Merge Layers “, etc. find that although all the main menu, function as a shortcut accelerating daily work.

I recommend you pack down and review it a bit. Probably better suited for some than for others, but this can inspire to create our own set of actions to improve our workflow.

The set is for CS2, CS3 and CS4. For the CS5 should probably try and throw some odd error.

Although we had seen a long tutorial on selections using channels, Photoshop CS5 brought in his new tool "Refining Mask"Which will save much time and leave us breathless with the results.

Before starting the tutorial I want to thank AgustinaWho through him to the fact that people Adobe send me the Adobe Master Collection. Continue reading →

One of the things I ‘ve been asked to explain in recent times is as complex and irregular select items like hair . Although we had seen a long tutorial on selections using channels, PhotoShop CS5 brought in his new tool “Refining Mask“Which will save much time and leave us breathless with the results.

Before starting the tutorial I want to thank AgustinaWho through him to the fact that people Adobe send me the Adobe Master Collection.

The images used in this tutorial are stock.xchng:

Now let us start :

As you see in the image, the model has hair that long ago would have been a headache. What then is try to change the background keeping the model in the foreground, with all his hair intact.

1. Making the selection

We begin by making a selection of character with the tool that makes us feel more comfortable. It may be the pen, the polygonal lasso or any other form . Before you begin, bear in mind to leave at 1 or 2 px on “Feather“Located at the top once you select the selection tool (forgive the redundancy). This will make our selection is not hard, but its completion is softer. Later we modify it, but if we got used from the start … better.

When we get to the hair , will make a quick selection of the area ( as shown in Figure 2 ), without elaborating .

2. Masks, your best ally

The title of this item says it all. have often heard work non-destructively . The masks allow just that , cropping an image (in this case ) without affecting the original photo. For those just starting , I suggest this tutorial on masks.

Once we go to the selection panelMasks“Which may find it right with the typical symbol of the mask or if not found, from the main menu Window> Mask we can open the panel.

While the images are in English (a gift horse in the teeth look it ) I think everyone can follow the tutorial.

What we see here is the panel in question, from where we have the possibility to apply the mask to the selection, make a vector mask and modify certain parameters of the same (among whom were the aforementioned “Feather“).

With a red circle I marked the option where we will apply the mask to the selection. Once this is done automatically hide what we have left out, leaving the selection drawn from its background.

Values Density and Feather leave it as is because we are interested in this tutorial is “Edge Mask” … define the edge of the mask.

3. Time of magic!

Here ‘s the kicker . We will go to the “Edge Mask” (edge of the mask ) in the Masks panel where we see the following window .

In this window mask we can work our will. Initially we found the box Display Mode, Where we can choose several options. But in this case use the image and highlighting best hair removal .

In the image I marked three factors to take into account ( the rest is just a matter of taste … each image is a world apart and not always all work the same way.) The first is the edge detection range. It is always good to add a faint radio if the image has a complex background as much radio do we take other objects and leave nothing radio to mask details of the object . Therefore , 0.5 px is a good number for this occasion.

On the other hand is the option “Decontaminate colors. Many times the edges of objects takes some background color or environment , either by illumination of the photograph , the quality of it, and so on. This will make if the hair is blond and in this case, it does not leak green of the trees or sky blue . PhotoShop will attempt to remove the object with its original color .

Finally, find the Brush as the tool to refine the edges. How you use is very simple, we pass the Brush on the edge of the hair, trying to find out what the mask does not show . If the brush size is small , remember that at the top is the option to change it.

Thus, we will see that the hair brush is detected .

If during this step we see that the brush shows some other details that do not want, then press the Alt key and paint what we are doing is deleting the unwanted portion .

Once we have done all the work , we give OK and see how our image has improved the edge of his mask:

Just try it with a background subtraction .

4. Finishing touches

We will try to blur a background as in the original image. For this we take the image of the landscape and we , obviously, in a layer below the mask model .

In this particular case , I will run a little to the model, as it cuts the legs was not our main concern in this image fits the foot.

As you can see, the results of this new feature of PhotoShop CS5 are simply fantastic. Just look at the tips of the hair to realize this.

To complete the picture somehow, have become the image of the landscape for Smart Filters (So as to continue with a composition nondestructively) and have applied a Gaussian Blur of 10px .

The same process I did with the model. Only this time the Gaussian blur 1.5px was and I took the mask that gives the intelligent filter to hide all the blur ( painted black mask ) and only apply the blur to the tip of the hair, to merge but the image. A small detail for retailers.

Finally , using the yellow hair and grass in the background , create an adjustment layer Hue / Saturation, Tick the box “Colorize“And I played a bit with the settings until you reach a tone zepia . In the layer blending mode changed to Soft Light and ready … finished the job.

I hope you liked the tutorial and to facilitate the daily work.

When I started with PhotoShop , I remember that also cost me. Something that seems so simple annoying that gives it simple. That’s why , although I recommend to keep trying to achieve the gradient as explained in this tutorial , I propose an alternative to achieve the same effect. And it is a cheaper alternative , is a tool that henceforth we will use very often. The same is layer mask. Here :

Step 1: Open a document and import to merge the two pictures . This point I skipped to explain assuming that is already clear. I have the picture here and in the layer 1 vertical and horizontal picture in layer 2 (no need to be vertical and horizontal , but I follow the example of the previous tutorial ).

Step 2: In the picture below, see the layer panel . In it I marked where the toolLayer Mask“With a red circle. Being in the layer 2 (above) , you click on “Layer Mask“And the panel will show a white box next to the image. Let us see if the image:

Basically what this tool is to hide everything painted black and show everything painted white.

Step 3: Once done, press the ” D “to reset the default colors ( black and white front to the background .) Select the Brush tool from the Tools panel and give it a value, such as the circle you see in the picture below ( depends on the resolution of the photographs that we are using , that’s why I do not give values.)

What we do is paint the bottom edge of the picture above . We will see that instead of appearing black, will fade the image, what we’re painting . In this way we can achieve a merger between the two images. Remember that hardness Brush ( when selecting the size is also this property of the brush ) must be in zero, to have a blur .

To reach a mistake and leave invisible party wanted to see , just enough to rotate the colors ( black and white face in the background) and white paint section we want to display. Remember : The invisible black , white visible.

Simple , no?

In the tutorial Today we will see ” difficult choices made simple “, A resource for when we have select items of irregular shapes lead us to abandon the work by the thought of doing any of the selection tools we all know (read loop, polygonal lasso , pen , layer mask , etc.).

With this trick, you can select not only irregular shapes, but also maintain transparency of the object. We can use it to water ( waterfalls , waves ..) , glass ( glasses, bottles …) and even in some cases , hair .

Here are the photographs that will work :

What we try is to put the waterfall in the other image. Although we will not see in detail, then we zoom in to see the effect achieved .

Step 1: Open the image a (mountain) and duplicate it with CTRL + J. Then open the image 2 ( cascade) on the same canvas , in a layer above the image 1.

If necessary resize the waterfall with CTRL + T. We give you 50 % opacity to the waterfall from the Layers panel to see through it and place it where we want to show the waterfall

Step 2: Once located in the place we want, its opacity back to 100 %. What we do then is select the polygonal lasso (or your favorite selection tool ), and mark a selection around the waterfall. In this way:

This is approximate , but by way of example , to see that the selection should not be required , taking all that is water particles around it.

We’re going to Edit> Copy Merged . We went to the layer panel and see that right there is the flip of ” channels “( usually found there . Failure to be , we can open it from Window > Channels ). Once in the Channels panel , create a new one, which is automatically called ” alpha1 ” . At that moment will be all black .

And this why? Usually called alpha channel everything is transparent. And if we remember previous tutorials, black is the color that takes as its transparency.

Now with alpha channel created, paste copied image we had on that channel (Edit> Paste).

Step 3: What we will do next is the most important step . Here we make a contrast between black and white , so as to take the slides and singled jagged edges and water particles .

Tip: Not too much, not so little: finding balance.

Then go to Image> Adjustments> Levels and run the switch from black to find this item under discussion. My result for this picture is this:

As we see is only water . What I marked in red in the picture is for the following: Since I like and do not want it to look , then what I will do is paint it black , being careful not to paint many particles.

Step 4: To select this, you click on the alpha channel with the CTRL key pressed. It will be a selection not complete in our eyes , but in reality is what we need .

Before turning to the layers panel again , we must put the RGB channel visible by clicking on the box to hide the channel visibility and alpha1 in the same way (see image above).

Now if we can move to the layer panel to see the selection in the image.

Step 5: Create a new layer , which we call “Cascada transparent” . Even at this layer and with the active selection , we will Edit> Fill . The display of this tool , we use the color white as content to Normal mode and opacity to 100 %.

Accepted and press CTRL + D to deselect . If you do not hide the image layer with the waterfall , we do , so that the layer is visible only with the image of the mountain and the cape “cascade transparent. ”

While we have the waterfall perfectly ” cut ” , we have not managed to give realism to the image. Missing? Say water is not soaking anything… The rocks below the falls have the same color as the rest .

Step 6: Create a new layer between the waterfall and rocks. We take the paintbrush and selected as your foreground color # 1f2110 or similar (black). We painted the whole area behind the waterfall and sideways.

Step 7: In this layer , we went down its opacity to 50 % and change its blending mode to ” Linear Light . ”

Finally, and because I am something ” vueltero ” I gave him a blur . This of Filters> Blur> Gaussian Blur with a value of 8px .
